Shunshinkan Maui Ki-Aikido

Introduction

Aloha! Welcome to the Shunshinkan Dojo.

Even though Aikido is a ‘martial art,’ it is not about learning how to overcome others. Aikido begins and ends with the premise that mind and body are essentially one phenomenon, looked at from two different perspectives: mental and physical. Aikido training is the process of realizing not only the unification of mind and body, but our innate sameness, and ultimate union, with all that surrounds us. This unification of mind and body is our natural state. It is in this natural state that we can perform at the highest level of our potential. Aikido provides the way to study and practice the function of mind and body as one.

History

Maui Ki Aikido is a place to learn, practice and promote the principles of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido and Shin Shin Toitsu Do (the way of Mind Body Unification).

Maui Ki Aikido’s beginnings date back to 1953 when aikido was first brought here from Japan by our teacher Soshu Koichi Tohei.

At that time, the dojo was called the Wailuku Aikido Club and was the precursor of the present Shunshinkan Dojo, built in 2000.

To learn more, you can download and read an oral history of the dojo. (PDF file)

Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido and Shin Shin Toitsu Do (Ki Training) offer a unique mind/body experience through a variety of training methods. We invite you to train with us.
